VIPKID Review. Is VIPKID Teacher Portal Legit?

VIPKID is a  platform for teaching Chinese Kids the Engish language through an online teacher portal.

What is not to like, earning at the comfort of your home while nurturing children to explore and learn new horizon.

After reading my review, you will have the detailed information about this platform that hopefully could guide you in your decisions.

What is VIPKID?

VIPKID gives opportunities to American instructors to teach children from China, and ages 4-12 to speak English. Once hired, your job is to provide education to Chinese students who are seeking education of the English language.

This teaching will be done through a one on one session, just like regular classes, only that it is happening online.

How to Get a Spot?

For the application requirements, you do not need to have teaching certification to get qualified, although you need at least a bachelor’s degree for your application to push through.

After you submitted your application, they will match your qualifications to their standards, and then if they see you are capable, they will set up a schedule for an interview.

You will be performing a mock lesson or a 30-minute video of yourself teaching, and then the recruiter will evaluate your performance.

If the initial assessment went okay, they would invite you to get to know more about their company. In this process, you may get reading materials and videos that explain the way their business and program operates.

Once you are thoroughly familiar with the guidelines, standards and teaching materials, you can now proceed with the second leg of the interview process.

Another mock teaching exercise, unlike the first part where your knowledge, skill, and personality is assessed, this time, it is about your ability following the course guidelines VIPKID sets.

If you pass their qualifications, then you got the job! You will receive documents that you are required to sign and return, as some agreement and then, you will work on setting up a profile you can use so you can start working with them.

Teaching Proper

Since this should make your students feel they are in a classroom, it is highly recommended that you prepare props, you do not need to exaggerate, a decent background and some charts on the wall is good enough.

As a teacher, it is your job to put your students in the mood to learn. Contrary to what others think, this is a formal training session, students will come to you, expect a decent education of the English language and that you have to provide.

You must dress up professionally and be as formal as possible, like how licensed teachers look like. Other than the visual, another important factor to consider is the quality of communication.

Having all tools available to make certain that audio is clear is a must. You need to keep in mind that you are teaching your students ESL or English as their Second Language, thus giving them information in the clearest manner possible is necessary.

There is a 13-hour difference between Beijing and the US, of course, Beijing is the base time. Your minimum working hours in a week is 7.5, but you can ask for more hours if you wish.

The peak hours during weekdays is between 6PM– 10 PM Beijing Time, 5AM-9AM in the US. During the weekend, you almost have the entire day, 9AM-10PM time in Beijing.

Compensation

The company offers earnings of $14 – $22 per hour.

The base pay is between $7 – $9 per 30-minute session or class. Bonuses will be given depending on your performance.

They value hard work, thus giving $1 per class bonus if you were able to attend to 45 or more classes in one pay period.

You will receive your pay every 10th and the 15th of each month through direct deposits.

Things to Think About

This teaching job only available to those who have laptops or desktops, as their online platform may not be suitable to work on a tablet or smartphone.

If you do not have a personal computer to use, then you might as well look for a different home base work, this is not for you.

Teachers are required to submit their available schedules a month in advance, canceling classes is not easy, you may get penalized for canceling or can be the cause of your termination.

You need to make sure that the schedule you set is fulfilled. Anyway, they are running an organized business, thus excuse for absence is not always welcome and acceptable.

Conclusion

Is their business legitimate? Absolutely! Although, this is not something that can make you rich, or give you a comfortable life, or make you quit your day job.

This teaching job is good enough to give you spare money to spend and keep in your bank account. The job itself is fulfilling knowing that you are giving education to children who are looking to expand their horizons and aspirations.

Their achievement is yours and same as with their failures. If you are not dedicated, or if you think you do not have what it takes to take the responsibility,  then you might as well forget about VIPKID.

This work is not the usual online job you will get, as this is a lot more than that. Giving children, who are looking for robust learning of the English language, is a tremendous responsibility.

They are paying to get the education they need, and as their teacher, it is your duty to provide them what they have paid. Overall, the job should be rewarding, fun and exciting to the right people who are seeking a home base job.
