Writing is a profession that can help you easily land a job online. The question is more on which amongst the online websites are legitimate, and it is not easy to assess anyway unless you personally try it out.
Although, there are legitimate companies who stand to what they claim, unfortunately, there are more who have personal interests.
If you are into writing, then this site is a platform you can take advantage to give you the opportunity to work from home.
After reading my review, you will have the detailed information about this platform and hopefully, will help you in making an educated decision.

What is Textbroker?
It is a platform that serves as a trading place for clients who are purchasing content or articles and writers who are looking to earn money.
They originated in Germany, but they expanded and now have headquarters in Las Vegas and New York City. They are in business since 2008, so assessing their legitimacy is easy.
How to Join?
Joining is free but not easy. You will sign up a form and you will be given few options of topics to write about. You have to be very good here, as you are only given one chance to prove your worth as a writer.
The rating given is 1 to 5 stars and if you get 1, which is the poorest rating you can get, can either give you very low chances of getting jobs or no chance at all.
5 star is not an easy score to get, very rare actually, 4 and 3 are average and easy to get by writers who have experience.
The rate is ranging from 0.7 cents/word for a 2-star writer to 5.0 cents/ word for a 5-star writer. Anyhow, if you receive a high rating, you will be given access to lots of jobs coming from different clients.
Getting low score during initial assessment is not ideal, first, you cannot get as much workload as you want and second, it is very hard to redeem yourself once you start with a very low rating.
Patience is a real virtue here, why? You need to be very patient as the verification process may last up to two weeks, so if you are in a hurry looking for a job, then go somewhere else.
Once you passed, congratulations! You can start working with them.
What Happens When You Get In?
The scoring does not end on the application process, as you will be re-assessed by their editors every after 5 articles completed.
Here is a major change they made that works to the writers’ advantage, instead of them getting ratings from clients, ratings will be coming from their internal editors, meaning, all writers will be treated fairly.
You cannot avoid clients who are highly subjective and `do not play fair. So, now, the score you get is according to the standards set by TextBroker and not someone else.
You will be given a pool of possible articles to write, depending on the quality of your writing. So it is imperative that you stay on top all the time, to get the most number of possible articles to write.
Simple punctuation error may give you a lower rating, thus work you get is not consistent. The lower your grade, the lesser chances of getting work.
Your client has all the right to decline your work, and you will be given just one opportunity or chance to revise the submitted article, and if still, you did not satisfy their requirement, they can turn it down completely.
But as an employee of Textbroker will review the unapproved article, an unwarranted rejection will still get you paid, but if warranted, by their discretion, and rejection is supported, and you will not get any payment.
How to Get Payment?
Textbroker will require you to get a PayPal account, no PayPal, no payment policy. This is the only medium of payment they use, so it is either you have a Paypal account or you get a PayPal account.
The second strict requirement is your W9 form, so obviously, if you are not an American citizen, you are not qualified and if you do not trust this site and not comfortable giving your W9, then, by all means, move to a different site.
Without PayPal and W9, you won’t be getting any money from them. So every $10 earned, you can request a withdrawal, payment is being sent out at the start of the business week, so if you will come to think of it, they will dispense payment often.

The Downside
Just like any online jobs, you will encounter, there is always a downside, for TextBroker, below are few of the usual complaints
Jobs Only for US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand Citizens
This is a privilege only given to the US, Uk, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand citizens, but we all know writers are from everywhere, thus not giving the opportunity to anyone who is determined to write and work is a bit unacceptable for others.
Outdated website
May not be their priority, but their website is just so outdated. You may experience usual internal errors, thus requiring you to log in and out from time to time.
Not a huge income generating website
This is not the site for those who are looking for stable income online as this can work only as a part-time.
Yes, TextBroker values your work and will pay you as they claim, but unfortunately, the amount they pay is less than 2 cents per word, below the average pay you get when you are working freelance.
Final Verdict
In terms of legitimacy, the website is legitimate, they are in the industry long enough to prove their business worth and they are paying whenever they say so.
For you to get continuous jobs here, you need to make sure that you are always on top of the articles you send.
There is a small margin for error when you are working with them.
This may not be a high paying job nor an easy job, but if you are looking for a platform that can allow you to get extra money, then there is nothing wrong trying this one out.
Joining is free, so the only thing you are losing, in case it did not turn out right for you, is your time and effort. If you are outside of the mentioned countries or you are looking for alternatives, you may want to check other online writing platforms like iWriter or Upwork.
If you do not want to write for anybody, I recommend you start a blog and monetize it so you can earn a full-time income.
